Kitchen Connections:
Created over the last three years, Kitchen Connections have been made in response and in honour of the next generation of young adults, at their time of stepping out into the world. The paintings document an unprecedented moment when small meet ups were punctuated by intervals of lockdown and large parties and gatherings of any kind were illegal, (save exclusively for our government, it transpires).
The images aim to reflect pent up energy and vibrance of youth and a natural need for connection, trust and autonomy. In addition, the artist strives to capture the angst of isolation, loss of contact and bewilderment of circumstances.
In contrast to the figurative work, the still life images give voice to an aftermath: the empty nest, social constellations, conversations, questions and a return to self. They aim to challenge the mundanity of the everyday with suggestions of metaphorical and habitual pattern repeats, along with an enquiry into reality.
